Recoil [PC]

Recoil is a game developed by Zipper interactives and Westwood studios, Published by Electronic Arts in the year 1999. It involves the player driving an experimental tank known as the "BFT" (Battle Force Tank) through various missions.

This game takes placed in a futuristic timeline. A network corporation has taken over most of the computers on the planet and has forced everyone into slavery, their ultimate goal being to make everything robotic, autonomous. A resistance forms, operating in underground buildings and traveling at night to avoid detection by the machines. The player is given various missions to take out different parts of the Network's forces and operations, using a stolen prototype tank known as the BFT (Battle Force Tank), which is transported from place to place by a stolen VTOL aircraft.

TIPS:

  • Arrow keys are used to moves around and while using the submarine A and Z help you move up and down in the water.
  • F5 and F6 control the information display and toggles between full or no hud. 
  • M opens the map.
  • 1-9 switches weapons. There are two weapons for each key, which can be alternated by hitting that number again.
  • There are many other keys which give details in and around the HUD like "O" gives the mission report, feel free to try new keys.
  • You can access "inaccessible" areas by blowing up craters on the ground and use them as a "natural ramps", you can also hide in a crater.
  • You can destroy objects from very far away, but this takes a lot of the fun out of the game so don't do it all the time ;)

During play, press CTRL+X to enable a cheat menu. Now type:
ammo -Unlimited ammunition 
cavalry -Invincible 
health -Full health 
hemmit -All Weapons 
killjoy -Extra hover tech 
medic -100% Shields 

Installation Guide:

If you have a .iso file (disk image) of the game you can install it in the following ways
1. Burn the disk image to a CD, and run the set-up file normally.
OR
2. If you don't have the privilege to write on a disk or have a disk drive you can use Daemon tools. Mount the disk image on a virtual drive and you're good to install it normally from a disk.

P.S To get the CD music to play during the game you MUST burn the game to a physical cd and keep it in your cd-rom, it will not work using daemon tools although you can install the game that way. 
Although the official multiplayer servers are long gone you can host your own game once you get tired of the single player.

I myself experienced some problems while installing this game, and have some solutions for it!

"RECOIL REQUIRES WIN98/98"
While installing on a higher version of windows (say Win7 and above) it says it isn't compatible.
For this, you must go to "Run programs made for previous version of windows". You can find this in Control panel>Programs>Programs and features.
A program compatibility window will open, follow the instruction given in the window (just hit NEXT). When it asks you to select the program you're having problems with, choose "Not Listed" and navigate to the disk image and select "AutoRun.exe".
try recommended settings or answer a few questions for the software to decide which is best.
Then start the program.
In my computer, I installed using WindowsXP(sp2) compatibility.

If you get some kind of video error, or some .dll error!
You have a pirated OS or your drivers arent properly installed or updated.
I could resolve this by installing latest DirectX driver.

Also in the disk image (G:\REDIST\DIRECTX6\DIRECTX), There is DXSETUP.exe somewhere in the bottom install it.
